An almost perfect weekend for Bradley Ray in the British Superbike Championship at Donington Park. Three wins in three races was the outcome.

After Saturday’s victory, the Raceways Yamaha rider took the lead in Sunday’s second race right on the first lap, ahead of Kyle Ryde (OMG Nitrous Competitions Racing Yamaha) and Glenn Irwin (Hager PBM Ducati)… who moved up to second on the following lap, before overtaking Ray on lap four.

One corner later, the #28 regained the position, managing to defend it from further attacks. In an attempt to take back the lead, Irwin made a mistake that dropped him to fourth. Meanwhile, Ray continued in front and eventually won, beating Ryde by 1.110s.

On the final lap, Irwin secured the last spot on the podium by overtaking Rory Skinner (Cheshire Mouldings Ducati). Leon Haslam (Moto Rapido Ducati Racing) completed the top five.

As for the third race, Ray reached first place right on the opening lap and then tried to pull away. However, after climbing to second on lap ten, Irwin chased the leader and significantly closed the gap.

The Hager PBM Ducati rider kept up the pressure until the end, but Ray held firm and won by 0.396s. Skinner finished third – his first podium with the current team. Haslam came fourth, and Ryde could do no better than fifth after being handed a Long Lap penalty for exceeding track limits.

Following his three victories at Donington Park, Ray now leads the championship with 86 points – 12 more than Irwin and 20 more than Ryde.

In a devastating incident at Oulton Park on Monday, two riders, Owen Jenner and Shane Richardson, tragically lost their lives following a catastrophic crash in the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship race. The crash, which occurred on the first lap at Old Hall corner, involved 11 riders and left six more injured. The severity of the crash forced the immediate cancellation of the remainder of the event.

Jenner, 21, was racing for Rapid Honda, while Richardson, 29, was competing for the Astro-JJR Hippo Suzuki team. Richardson, who finished eighth in last year’s championship standings, and Jenner, in his second season of the Supersport Championship, both suffered fatal injuries in the incident. Jenner passed away from a catastrophic head injury despite resuscitation efforts at the medical center. Richardson, who sustained severe chest injuries, was transferred to the hospital but tragically died before arrival.

The race, which was the opening event of the British Superbikes season, had already seen intense competition, but the tragic accident overshadowed the day’s proceedings. Tom Tunstall, a 47-year-old rider, was also injured, suffering significant back and abdominal injuries. He was transferred to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment.

Five other riders were treated for minor injuries on-site, while three others were unharmed. The remaining event at Oulton Park was canceled, and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident has been launched. The Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board, MotorSport Vision Racing, the Coroner, and Cheshire Constabulary are all involved in the investigation.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the motorsport community, with many offering condolences to the families of the riders involved. The tragic loss of two young talents has highlighted the inherent dangers of the sport, and it is a somber reminder of the risks that drivers face every time they take to the track.

The world of motorsport was struck by heartbreak on Monday as British rider Owen Jenner, 21, and New Zealand’s Shane Richardson, 29, tragically lost their lives following a devastating incident during the Supersport race at Oulton Park. The crash, which involved 11 riders in total, led to the immediate cancellation of the race and has left the motorsport community in mourning.

The tragic accident occurred in the opening lap of the race, just after the first corner at Old Hall, when a fall in the front of the pack triggered a chain reaction. This resulted in multiple crashes and collisions, with a total of 11 riders involved in the incident. The race was halted immediately, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. Hours later, the heartbreaking news confirmed that both Jenner and Richardson had passed away, while British rider Tom Tunstall, 47, suffered severe injuries.

Jenner, who had an impressive career, was a triple British champion—winning the British Junior Supersport 2020, British Junior Superstock 2023, and British GP2 2024 titles. His loss, along with Richardson’s, has sent shockwaves through the racing world, particularly within the British Superbike community, where they were well-known figures.

The British Superbike Championship (BSB) issued an official statement confirming the tragic deaths, expressing their deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the riders. “This devastating incident has cast a shadow over today’s races, and we extend our heartfelt thoughts to everyone affected by this tragedy,” said the statement.

The Supersport race, which was meant to be part of the opening round of the national British championship, was the penultimate race of the day. With the event now cancelled, the motorsport world is left reflecting on the risks that come with such a high-speed, high-stakes sport.

Tom Tunstall, another rider involved in the crash, is reported to have suffered serious injuries, and his condition remains critical. As the motorsport community comes to terms with the loss, thoughts are with the families of all those involved, and fans worldwide are sending their tributes to Jenner and Richardson, both of whom had bright futures ahead in their racing careers.

May they rest in peace.

Just weeks before the season begins, the British Superbike Championship (BSB) has been hit with a major surprise: the departure of OMG Racing, last year’s title-winning team.

In a statement released this Tuesday, the team, which had been competing since 2018, announced its decision, making it clear: ‘Unfortunately this is not an April Fools’.

The decision was made ‘due to significant commercial circumstances’ beyond OMG Racing’s control. The team had been set to field 2022 and 2024 champions Bradley Ray and Kyle Ryde, along with Joe Talbot.

OMG Racing – which was supported by Yamaha – is stepping away just three weeks before the season opener. The team is now working with BSB promoter MSVR to explore alternative options for its riders.

Carl Fogarty, a true Superbike legend, will be involved in the British Superbike Championship (BSB) this year as the team principal for Advocates Racing.

The former rider was a four-time Superbike World Champion with Ducati in the 1990s, retiring in 2000 after suffering multiple injuries in a crash at Phillip Island.

Now 59, Fogarty is making his return to racing in a managerial role in BSB. Advocates Racing, led by Lecha Khouri, will be using Ducati bikes and working in collaboration with Jackson Racing.

Speaking to the official championship website, Fogarty commented: ‘I love the racing in BSB. Of the three championships I follow – MotoGP, World Superbikes and BSB, it is my favourite one. That’s because of how close the racing is, the nature of the circuits that they race on, the power of the bikes and the way that the electronics don’t interfere with the riders, they control it and I can relate to that from when I raced. I’m happy to be part of this and with my racing knowledge and experience, being involved with this race team is incredibly exciting’.

The PBM Ducati team has confirmed that Glenn Irwin will remain as their sole rider for the 2025 British Superbike (BSB) season, solidifying his place in the team with a fresh two-year contract. This extension marks Irwin’s third consecutive season with PBM and secures his spot through 2026, as he intensifies his pursuit of his first BSB title.

The Northern Irishman, a formidable contender in recent BSB seasons, has finished in the top three for three consecutive years. He narrowly missed out on the championship in 2023, losing by just 0.5 points to his then-teammate Tommy Bridewell, and concluded the 2024 season in third behind Bridewell and Kyle Ryde. For 2025, he’ll be back on the Ducati Panigale V4 R—a bike that has claimed three titles since its debut in 2019, boasting a strong 50% title success rate.

PBM Racing’s co-owner, Jordan Bird, expressed excitement over Irwin’s continued presence on the team. “It is fantastic that we can announce that Glenn will remain with the PBM Racing Team for the next two seasons,” Bird said. “This season was a big year for us, and I am proud of what we have all achieved in our first full season together. Now we are focused on the new season, working hard behind the scenes to come out fighting for the Championship in 2025.”

Irwin’s journey with PBM began in 2017 when he transitioned from the British Supersport class to BSB. He briefly left PBM in 2019, competing with Quattro Plant Kawasaki and later TAS Racing BMW, before joining Honda Racing UK in 2020. After three successful seasons with Honda, including a close second-place finish in 2022, he rejoined PBM with renewed determination.

In a bid to sharpen his focus on the BSB championship, Irwin recently announced his departure from road racing, specifically stepping away from events like the North West 200. This decision underscores his commitment to securing his first BSB crown.

As the 2025 season approaches, Irwin and PBM are aiming to capture the team’s tenth BSB title, with Irwin embracing the role of PBM’s sole rider for a second straight season. With consistency and a fierce determination, both Irwin and PBM are setting their sights on championship glory.
